Opal is a traditional variety intended for growing for grain and feedstock. It is a plant which is very resistant plant to canker, a dangerous infectious disease caused by fungi of the genus Glomerella cingulata. In the 2022-2023 COBORU studies, the resistance of this variety was rated above 8 on a 9-point scale. Opal is the sweetest yellow lupin in our range with a protein content of 42% and a low ratio of raw fibre. It is characterised by its high yield – the average in the 2022-2023 registration studies was 103% of the standard. It is a short variety, standing around 60 cm, and with very high resistance to lodging (rating 8.5/9).
The low weight of one thousand seeds, which oscillates around 110 g, results in a significant reduction in the sowing standard per hectare. It matures very evenly and has a ratio proportion of pre-harvest green pods which help reduce yield losses.
